Manitoba pioneered the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in 1998, becoming the first province to do so. As a smaller province with limited newcomers, Manitoba utilized the PNP to attract skilled immigrants and position itself as an attractive destination. Since its inception, the Manitoba PNP has been instrumental in driving immigration success in the province. Immigration, facilitated by the Manitoba PNP, has significantly contributed to the growth of Manitoba's population, labour force, and economy.
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) was Canada's inaugural PNP, established as a permanent immigration program in 1998. Aimed at fostering economic growth in the province, the MPNP tailored immigration to meet Manitoba's economic and labour market demands.
Initially welcoming 418 immigrants in its inaugural year, the MPNP now nominates over 5,000 newcomers annually, significantly contributing to Manitoba's GDP, which would otherwise be up to 30% lower without the program.
With a high retention rate of nearly 90%, Manitoba is a favoured destination among newcomers. Having a connection to the province, such as a friend or relative, can facilitate immigration through the MPNP. Moreover, over 90% of provincial nominees secure employment within their first year of arrival.
